On Friday, we asked Michigan football fans who they thought were the Wolverines’ top players this season. And you all hit the polls with your thoughts.
With more than 250 completed ballots, we were able to get a sense of who Michigan fans appreciated the most this season. From All-Americans to All-Big Ten players to unsung heroes, plenty of Wolverines stepped up this season. Now, with fans deciding the ranking, we break down which ones were the most impressive.
As a whole, the top 10 was not nearly as defensive-oriented as the previous four or five seasons, with five offensive players cracking the top 10 and three cracking the top five. That speaks in part to Michigan’s defense struggling in key moments this season, but also to the Wolverines’ growth on offense, particularly in the passing game and along the offensive line.
As far as methodology goes, I fielded an initial poll asking for fans’ top 10s, and put all 18 players who received multiple votes on a ballot (which fans can still read about and vote on here). Then, we scored the results as a traditional ranking score, offering 10 points for a first-place vote, nine for a second-place vote and so on.
So who made the cut? We break down the rankings and why each player ended up where they were below. Feel free to weigh in in our comments section to let us know what you think.
