ESPN’s two bowl prognosticators, Kyle Bonagura and Mitch Sherman, have U-M in a New Year’s Six bowl. Sherman says it’ll be the Peach Bowl against Florida on Dec. 29 in Atlanta while Bonagura thinks it will be the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 1 in Glendale, Ariz., also against Florida.
The Wolverines last played Florida to open the 2017 season in Arlington, Texas, and it was a 33-17 win for U-M. The Gators and Wolverines have played three times in bowls, most recently in the Citrus Bowl on Jan. 1, 2016, a 41-7 win for U-M.
Both ESPN guys have Michigan State going to the Pinstripe Bowl, Dec. 27, at Yankee Stadium in New York. Bonagura says the opponent will be Georgia Tech. Sherman says Duke.
MSU has played Georgia Tech in the postseason before: A 17-14 loss in the All-American Bowl on Dec. 31, 1985, in Birmingham, Ala.
ESPN also has homes for Western Michigan (Bonaguara: Frisco Bowl, Dec. 19 against Tulane; Sherman: Idaho Potato Bowl, Dec. 21, San Diego State) and Eastern Michigan (Sherman: Frisco Bowl vs. Tulane).
CBSSports.com’s Jerry Palm’s latest bowl projections also have U-M in the Peach Bowl against Florida. He also has MSU in the Outback Bowl, Jan. 1 in Tampa, Fla., against Texas A&M. And, he has WMU in the Armed Forces Bowl, Dec. 22 in Fort Worth, Texas, against Army.
USA TODAY Sports’ Erick Smith also has a late-breaking bowl projection. He, too, has U-M in the Peach Bowl against the Gators. And he has MSU in the Gator Bowl, Dec. 31 in Jacksonville, Fla., taking on Auburn. Smith believes the Broncos will play Tulane in the Armed Forces Bowl.
You’ll never guess where Sports Illustrated’s Eric Single has U-M going: yep, the Peach Bowl against Florida. He also says MSU will go to the Outback Bowl, but it will be against Mississippi State. Single doesn’t leave out EMU, whom he has pegged for the AutoNation Cure Bowl on Dec. 15 in Orlando, Fla., against Louisiana. And, WMU would go to the Idaho Potato Bowl against Nevada.
Finally, SBNation’s Jason Kirk has the Wolverines going to the Fiesta Bowl against LSU. Kirk has the Spartans going to Nashville, Tenn., for the Music City Bowl on Dec. 28 against Missouri. And he has the Broncos going to the Camellia Bowl on Dec. 15 in Montgomery, Ala., against Georgia Southern.
