Michigan RB Berkley Edwards stretchered off after targeting hit

The Michigan Wolverines football team beat the Indiana Hoosiers 31-20 at Michigan Stadium on Saturday.

However, Michigan lost multiple players to injuries during the game, including Wolverines running back Berkley Edwards, who was carted off the field after a targeting penalty in the fourth quarter. Indiana’s Cam Jones laid a vicious hit on Edwards, and Jones was ejected after a review.

Edwards received attention on the field for over 10 minutes before he was taken off the turf. Fortunately, the FS1 broadcast reported that Edwards has “feeling in his extremities.” The stretcher was used as a precautionary measure.

Video of the hit on Edwards can be seen below.

Earlier in the game, Michigan lost pass rusher Chase Winovich and defensive lineman Aubrey Solomon to injury as well. Winovich was pushed in the side by Indiana offensive lineman Simon Stepaniak. Stepaniak then lunged on top of Winovich while the defensive lineman was on the ground. The Hoosiers lineman was called out on the broadcast and on social media for what was deemed a dirty play.

Winovich was able to walk off the field after receiving medical attention, but he was later taken to the locker room. After the game, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said x-rays on Winovich were negative, although Harbaugh declined to address what exact injury the defender suffered.

The health of all of these players will be paramount with “The Game” coming up next week against Ohio State. The winner will play Northwestern in the 2018 Big Ten Championship Game.
