Michigan Has Reportedly Hired Anthony Campanile Away From Boston College

The Michigan Wolverines, in the aftermath of a disappointing finish to the 2018 season, have been making a number of coaching changes. This past weekend, another was announced.

Michigan is hiring away Boston College co-defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile. He’s set to join the defensive staff – though it doesn’t appear his exact role has been defined.

The news was rumored on Friday morning. A few hours later, it looks like a deal was reached.

Jim Harbaugh commented Friday on the new hire. Via the Detroit Free Press:

“Anthony has a strong reputation for developing all-conference performers and future NFL players,” Harbaugh said in a news release late Friday. “Our student-athletes will benefit greatly from his mentorship. Anthony is an excellent addition to our coaching staff and provides great flexibility with his experience working on both sides of the ball and at multiple positions. Michigan football looks forward to having Anthony, Tracey, and their children, Valentina and Serafina, join our University family.”

Campanile played linebacker at Rutgers from 2001-2004 and eventually returned to the school on its coaching staff from 2012-2015. He’d been with Boston College since the 2016 season.

Michigan, after starting the season with a 10-1 mark, collapsed down the stretch, losing ugly games to both Ohio State and Florida.
