Michigan Football will lose if its treats Peach Bowl as a disappointment

The Michigan football team has to find a way to be motivated about playing in the Peach Bowl or Florida might beat the Wolverines.

When you look at Michigan football and Florida it’s pretty easy to say that the Wolverines are the better team. That’s why they are a touchdown favorite after all.

However, this isn’t a regular-season game. Michigan football and Florida are playing in the bowl season and that’s an entirely different ballgame and a lot of times, the game comes down to motivation.

With a new head coach and a chance to make a statement, Dan Mullen and the Gators should be plenty motivated for this game. No one expected Florida to make the New Year’s Six this season and the fact that they finished 9-3 was a surprise.

Unlike Michigan football fans, Florida fans have to be excited that they are a top-10 team heading into the bowl game with the chance to score a big-time win over a Michigan team that has been considered among the best in the nation all season long.

Michigan, on the other hand, is playing a team it has beaten twice in the past three years. The team will take the Gators more seriously than the fans because let’s face it, Florida is a good team. Lots of people wanted Michigan football to play LSU and the Gators dominated the Bayou Bengals.

Florida is going to look at this game as a springboard to next season, while Michigan should look at it as a chance to finish off what has been a really good season. 11 wins and a potential top-5 ranking, plus the first major bowl win for the program in seven years all seem like worthwhile goals.

Hopefully, guys like Chase Winovich, Devin Bush Jr., Karan Higdon and other players who will be playing their last game in a Michigan uniform treat this game like the 2007 Wolverines treated the Capital One Bowl against Florida.

That senior class hadn’t won a bowl game or beaten Ohio State going into that game, and a chance to beat a top-10 Florida team meant something to them. Of course, that team also had Tim Tebow, a Heisman-winning quarterback, but still, this Gators squad is ranked in the top 10 and this is a big-time bowl game, unlike the Capital One.

Michigan should win this game and if it does, it will give the program a positive end to the 2018 season, as well as a better outlook heading into next year. But bowl games are often determined by who wants it more and if that team ends up being the Gators, UM could be in trouble.
