Most playoff contenders survived rivalry week, leaving a clear pecking order in the Amway Coaches Poll with conference championship weekend ahead.
Alabama, Clemson and Notre Dame continue to hold down the top three spots. The Crimson Tide pulled away from Auburn after intermission and continue to receive all but one of the No. 1 votes. The second-ranked Tigers once again have the remaining first-place nod after a similar surge got them clear of South Carolina.
The No. 3 Fighting Irish are in the clubhouse at 12-0 after erasing an early 10-0 deficit to subdue Southern California.
Georgia, which will take on Alabama next week, and Oklahoma, which earned a rematch with Texas, round out the top five.
Stock up: Ohio State. The Buckeyes vault four places to No. 6 and are right back in the playoff conversation after their impressive take down of …
Stock down: Michigan. The Wolverines’ regular season is done. They fall four places to No. 8 and are almost sure to be playing in a major bowl, but that setback in Columbus is going to sting for a long time.
Stock up: Texas. The Longhorns staved off Kansas and climb two positions to No. 9 heading into the Big 12 championship game.
Stock down: Washington State. The Cougars still couldn’t get over the hump against Apple Cup rival Washington and will miss out on the Pac-12 title game. They take a six-place hit and check in at No. 13.
Stock up: Washington. The Huskies jump five places to No. 11 following the win at Washington State. They’ll meet No. 17 Utah for the Pac-12 crown
Stock down: West Virginia. The Mountaineers drop four slots to No. 16 after coming up just short against Oklahoma.
New kids on the block: No. 22 Texas A&M.
College dropouts: Pittsburgh.
