Friday Michigan Recruiting Roundup: Top target sets commit date

Welcome in to another Friday Michigan Recruiting Roundup.

It’s been a long week, and I sure am ready for the weekend. But first, before we do that, let’s hit on what’s been going on in the world of Michigan recruiting over the last couple days.

Top 2020 QB target sets commitment date

Michigan’s 2020 class may be adding a big name very soon, as 4-star quarterback Harrison Bailey announced on Twitter when he plans to commit to his future college.

Mark it down on the ole calendar. Nov. 29 at 2:45 p.m. Be ready, Wolverine fans.

Bailey has always been Michigan’s top quarterback recruit in the 2020 class, and the Wolverines are currently the heavy favorite to land him, with 90 percent of the crystal balls being in favor of the good guys.

He is the No. 3 pro-style quarterback, No. 7 player in Georgia and No. 59 overall player in his class. His addition to the 2020 class would be a huge deal.

Michigan offers another under-the-radar player, who is visiting Saturday

Before this very moment, have you ever heard of the name Amauri Pesek-Hickson? No? Well, you should probably familiarize with him, because U-M offered him a scholarship and he is now planning a visit to Ann Arbor this weekend (more on that in our recruiting visitors list which will be published in the next couple hours).

Pesek-Hickson is a 6-foot-3, 210-pound 3-star athlete from Leawood, Kansas. A couple crystal ball predictions came in for the Maize and Blue shortly after the offer was sent out. From a kid that has only one other offer (Missouri State), this shouldn’t come as a shock.

Many are speculating he will be on the defensive side of the ball and play safety, but I could see him being a SAM linebacker, too.

Unfortunately there is only a highlight video of him on offense, but here you go.

Trevor Keegan’s secret visit

No one knew 2019 4-star offensive lineman Trevor Keegan was unofficially visiting Michigan this week. That is until WolverinesWire’s Isaiah Hole (FREE) broke the news after apparently randomly running into him in Ann Arbor (what a scoop).

After the news broke, The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich ($) did some digging and found out the reason for the trip was to experience a day in the life of a Michigan football player — what they do exactly and what he would be in for as a Wolverine.

Marich also said Keegan was impressed by the way offensive line coach Ed Warinner ran a practice with the linemen, being a teacher instead of a “yeller,” and that he has noticed the strides the offensive line has taken from Week 1 to now.

Finally, Marich said he heard Keegan is pushing back his commitment date from Dec. 11 to Dec. 14 so his sister can be in attendance.

It is looking very likely Keegan will be the final offensive line addition to a 2019 class that already has loads of potential.

OSU insider flips crystal ball to Michigan for Zach Harrison

Finally, let’s end on a good note.

One of the most trustworthy Buckeyes insiders on 247Sports is Bill Kurelic. He isn’t one of the OSU guys to instantly put in a crystal ball whenever Urban Meyer simply looks at a recruit. He is thorough with the process and takes his time.

During the recruitment of 5-star defensive end Zach Harrison, he eventually put his crystal ball on Ohio State. But yesterday, after months of speculation and rumors, Kurelic heard enough and flipped his crystal ball to Michigan.

In his explanation ($), Kurelic details how well his summer visit to Michigan went and his strong relationship with linebackers coach Al Washington and current players and commits. Now people around Harrison at his high school also believe he will eventually commit to Michigan.

“After getting input again in the past few days from coaches, administrators, teachers and Harrison teammates, I am no longer being told that if they had to make a pick it would be Ohio State as their pick,” Kurelic said. “Input from two Harrison teammates that have played with him at Orange for multiple years and are good friends with him is that while nobody knows for sure what Harrison is going to do because he has done a great job of keeping everyone guessing and not telling anyone anything definite in regards to a decision, their thinking when pressed is probably Michigan.

“I am not at all convinced Harrison has made a final decision yet. I am not at all convinced he won’t pick either Ohio State or Penn State. But right now I have my pick on Michigan.”

This is all encouraging news. We are in full “wait and see” mode in this recruitment, so stay tuned.

That’s all for this week! Be sure to come back Monday for more recruiting news.
