2019 four-star cornerback Jalen Perry (Dacula, GA) committed to Michigan over South Carolina on Saturday, giving the Wolverines their second top target at the cornerback position this cycle from the state of Georgia.
Perry, who officially visited Michigan this weekend, came up to campus for the second time in three weeks after witnessing Michigan’s 42-7 victory against Penn State a few weeks ago. He was originally slated to visit South Carolina this weekend but rescheduled to head back up to Ann Arbor instead.
The four-star came away from his last visit incredibly impressed with what he saw.
“It was great,” Perry told Brice Marich of the Michigan Insider following his first visit. “I got to spend the whole weekend up there from Friday to Sunday since my high school team had a bye. I flew up there Friday morning and on that day, it was more meet with the coaches and have meetings with them. I got to talk with Coach Harbaugh, Coach Zordich, Coach Partridge and they kind of went through the rundown of how they are preparing for their game on Saturday. It was cool to be around them and later on I got to be around them for dinner with the coaches. I got to spend more time with them and got to meet some of the players as well.”
Perry added more on his visit, which is what we’re hearing put the Wolverines in a good initial position for his commitment.
“The next day, we woke up and went to College GameDay, which was at Michigan and very cool. I got to meet Desmond Howard, who went to Michigan, so it was very cool and I got to talk to him. On Saturday night, I got to watch the game, which Michigan had a great win against Wisconsin. The defense played really well, which was cool to see as a corner. They pretty much shut them down the whole game. On Sunday, I got to meet with the coaches one last time and got to go over the film the day before with Wisconsin. I talked to Coach Brown. He’s a great guy and I love him a lot. He knows defense and he knows everything about it. Talking with the coaches and the game, it was overall a great experience.”
With Perry on board, the Wolverines now have 26 verbal commitments in the 2019 cycle, including five from the state of Georgia if you include eventual transfers DJ Turner (IMG Academy) and Charles Thomas (St. Thomas More). They continue to pursue five-stars Quavaris Crouch, Zach Harrison and George Karlaftis among others and already have one five-star committed in Tulsa (OK) safety prospect Daxton Hill. Perry’s primary recruiter is safeties coach Chris Partridge.
