While the season is far from over for the Michigan Wolverines, the fact that they are in the top 4 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings will lead to talk from everyone and anyone about predictions on who would win those three games today, instead of asking it in less than a month when they are official.
One huge supporter in head coach Jim Harbaugh is Fox Analyst Colin Cowherd and he and another fox analyst/commentator Joel Klatt celebrated on being the only two people to believe in Jim Harbaugh a few weeks back.
He preached about how Jim Harbaugh is doing great etc. but then the tone changed two weeks later and while he was still high on Harbaugh, Cowherd believed they would get “boat raced” by Alabama and saying “I don’t love their offense.”
Klatt would explain in the video above how Oklahoma has a good offense, but a horrible defense. Guess who you think Cowherd believes can beat Alabama?
This just absolutely makes no sense here. You can high praise a coach and believe he is great, but to preach and say you were one of the only people to believe in him that he can turn a program around etc. then just throw them off the bus when Alabama is in front of them is ludicrous. What is more ludicrous is saying a Michigan team that is the number one defense in the country, wouldn’t stand a chance against the number four offense in the country, but that the number four offense in Alabama would have issues with the 80th ranked defense in the country.
I get Oklahoma is the number one offense in the country, but the best defense they have played this year was 13th ranked Army and they had to go to overtime with them to defeat them. Alabama has the eighth-ranked defense in the country and the game would be a neutral site instead of being at Oklahoma’s own home field.
Oklahoma would possibly put up a fight with Alabama, but to go from preaching a coach and his program to then flipping the switch weeks later (after winning big games and by double digits) and siding with a team that has struggled to take down Army, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Texas Tech and lost to Texas isn’t right.
Everyone can have their opinion on Michigan vs Alabama, it’s only fair, but to believe that this team would get “boat raced” when they have the best defense to match up with Alabama, but think an 80th ranked defense would make head coach Nick Saban go “oh boy” and struggle is laughable.
For now, Michigan should keep ignoring the noise made by the general media and their predictions on the final four. They are currently in and matched up with Alabama, but if they slip up in the next two or three weeks then this topic is gone as Michigan will be going to a New Year’s Six bowl instead of the CFP. They need to first focus on Indiana and win their final home game before traveling to Columbus to take on Ohio State.
