Beating Michigan confidence; RB recruiting up or down?

Good evening Bucknuts subscribers! There is plenty going on with Ohio State football recruiting so let’s get started! I will of course have plenty more throughout the night and tomorrow.

1) Dallas (Texas) Jesuit 2020 running back EJ Smith was back at Ohio State this past weekend and in Ohio Stadium as the Buckeyes defeated Michigan 62-39.

“It was a good game,” Smith said. “I enjoyed it. I knew it was going to be a great game with the stakes being so high. I thought it was going to be like last year. I didn’t think they would win like that. The atmosphere was wild. I loved it. They made it a 12th man in the stadium.”

Smith liked what he saw in regards to the Buckeyes’ offense and is familiar with the OSU players.

“Their offense is good,” Smith said. “The offensive line is good and J.K. Dobbins and Mike Weber are really good running backs. The receivers are strong. Dwayne Haskins is good.”

Smith said he conversed with Ohio State running backs coach Tony Alford and caught up on things with Urban Meyer. Smith has known Meyer since Smith was a child and Meyer was the Florida Gators’ coach. Smith is the son of Emmitt Smith the former star running back for the Florida Gators and Dallas Cowboys.

This past weekend was the second time EJ has been to Ohio State and the second time he has seen the Buckeyes play in-person this season. EJ attended the Ohio State – TCU game in September and he was at Ohio State in April for the Buckeyes’ spring game.

EJ’s most recent offer came from Utah and made 15 scholarship offers including Ohio State, USC, Texas A&M, TCU, Florida, Georgia, Nebraska, Kentucky and Arkansas. While there is no doubt about EJ’s interest in Ohio State, he says it is a bit early to name favorites.

The 5-foot-11 and 190-pound EJ played H-back as a sophomore and rushed for 1,000 yards and had over 800 receiving yards. He also returned punts and kickoffs. EJ played running back, slot and wide receiver his junior season. EJ has told Bucknuts the Buckeyes have mainly talked running back with him.

EJ is a 4-star prospect in the 247Sports Composite. He is the country’s No. 87 overall 2020 prospect, the No. 2 all-purpose back, and the No. 13 prospect in Texas.
